The Detroit School of Arts (DSA) is a new 1,200-student public high school in the heart of Detroit’s Cultural Center. The six-story building features many unique academic, performance and production spaces, including an 800-seat auditorium, 200-seat recital hall, black-box theater, television and radio production studios, art studios and galleries, music rehearsal rooms, a top-floor media center and dining hall spaces.
The Detroit Public Schools formed partnerships with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Detroit Public Television (DPTV) to give students direct access to high-quality educators, programs and professional facilities.
The project houses the new Communications Production Center for Detroit Public TV, the local PBS affiliate, and a new radio facility for WDTR FM, the Detroit Public Schools radio station. The DSA was developed using the principles of sustainable design and holds a LEED-certified rating with the U.S. Green Building Council.
